well i was at a park with my church...i wanted to go get some ice cream from cold stones so i leave the parking lot and make a turn into the freeway. I noticed right then that i forgot my wallet, so i get off, at next exit about 2 miles ahead, and go back. I was in 2nd to right lane, and exit was coming up and only opening was in front of the car to my right, so i speed up to about 85 and get in the right lane to exit, exit ramp just maybe 1/4 mile away. to my freaking luck a cop pulls me over for this, and im stopped RIGHT IN FRONT of the off ramp. so i get ticketed for 84 in a 65, and for not having a license on me. What kinda fines am i looking at here? this is my first ever ticket...never been pulled over before. im 18. also, any tips on what to do/how to act when i go to court? please help, thanks!

edit:
i know i was dumb... dont know y i forgot my wallet in the first place. anyway, there is no fine on the ticket...i just got this yellow notice to appear slip. i do have a valid license, just didnt have it on me, i was going back to get it.

edit:
i am going to court because i have no other choice..i got 2 tickets (one for speeding, other for no license). since i already have to go, i was just asking if there was anything i can do or request to lessen the fines and or such.

Why would you need to go to court to plead quilty. The fines should be written on the ticket. Go pay them at the courthouse.

Might as well go pay it.

Judges don't buy excuses, no matter if they are true or not. Trust me, they've heard them all.

Shouldn't have to pay a fine for the drivers license ticket if you can prove that you had a valid one at the time you got ticketed...just not on you.

Edit: it was pretty damn dumb to do 85 without your drivers license on you.

Since you did not have a license on your person you got 2 tickets right. In most cases with 2 you have to appear.

If you show up and plead guilty, the judge will more than likely drop the fine, put you on 3 or 6 month probation, and make you pay court cost (usually about $30-50). Since this is his first ticket and is 18, this procedure should work pretty good. On your next ticket, it may or may not work; I haven't gotten that far yet, so I don't know. ;)

Last fall I was ticketed for 45 in a 35. I escaped on a 3 month probation period and $45 court fee.

Is this your first ever ticket ?
Ask the PD if you can take defensive driving school.
Since you can only take DDS for one infraction, you have to choose which one that you want to take off. I think the speeding would be heavier fines. So take DDS for that.
As for your no license, you can try to fight that on the court. Put on your goody two shoes look and plea innocent.

i have a few more questions:

If plan on pleading not guilty, will my trial be on the date and time on my ticket? or do just tell the court im gonna contest the ticket on that date and they will set a trial date for me?

Am i allowed to change the location of the court to somewhere closer to me?

thanks for your help!

that initial date is most likely a pre-trial where you may meet with a prosecutor and works something out. if you actually have to see a judge, there's a good chance you're gonna have to come back a second day.

no, you can't change the location...and that's why speeding tickets away from home SUCK

if you actually go, there's

1) a chance cop might not show up
2) a chance prosecutor will allow you to settle w/out seeing a judge

i'd go, dress nicely, and see what happens.
