I vaguely remember a song that was playing on the radio yesterday night, as I was falling asleep. The only clues I can give are:

1) the song is very bare and soft
2) there is a xylophone type instrument playing a simple melody
3) it was a familiar song, so it ought to have been popular sometime from 1960 to 2000 hehe
4) I thought it was George Micheal - Faith, but it turned out not to be

Good luck!

Oh I didn't mean to imply that Faith had a xylophone in it... more like the simple melody was like the one in Faith

Haha, ok perhaps it wasn't a xylophone. It was some sort of percussion instrument which sounds like bells (for example, a xylophone). I could hum the descending melody and post it, but I'm afraid my tone deafness may hurt the search for the song title.

Do that, because we don't have much else to go by.

Alright, I recorded a clip of me humming the only part of the song I remember, but it turned out poorly in that it could be from any of the millions of songs out there.

Sound clip

There are words to the song, but I can't remember any of the lyrics. But they are soft, similar to the melody. It was a hit sometime in the 70's, 80's or 90's... perhaps 60's but I doubt that. So it's not some obscure song by a garage band next door or something. So, I guess think about big hits? I don't know! it's driving me crazy.

Also, the song is upbeat and something which was played on FM 97.3 in the SF bay area. They mostly play today's hits, but also play a lot of 80's songs. Here is a sample of their current top 25.

Even though I was skeptical that my song is a Pink Floyd song, I nonetheless listened to your suggestion. Nope.

Although, I did remember more of the song as I was reading this thread again. I have produced a new snippet of the chorus (I think it's the chorus). Now, instead of just dum-dum-dum dum-dum-dum, I have an oscillation part before the dum-dum-dum's. The oscillating part is played by a different instrument, either a string (like violin, but probably not guitar) or woodwind (like a flute).

lol on the recorded mp3's. :) seriously, though, it actually sounds like vanessa carlton's "a thousand miles". given the radio station you heard it on and the "simple oscillating melody", that would be my guess.

i LOVE that song...especially the end where there is no music/beat....just the vocals.
