I just received and set up the SMC Barricade 4-port router I ordered from Amazon last week.
The Internet access works fine and currently I only have one computer connected that is using a static-IP cable modem connection. However, my question is how can I configure the router so it works with the voice chat function in MSN Messenger (or NetMeeting) and certain multiplayer games?
The regular text chat function in MSN Messenger and NetMeeting works, but when I try to invite a friend to voice chat or accept an invitation, the status would display "Connecting with xxxx's computer" and never actually connects. In NetMeeting, when I call someone else, we can actually connect and text chat works, but we can't hear each other. When I play multiplayer games (specifically Age of Empires II), I can't use the Internet TCP/IP option to connect directly to another player. We both took turn and tried to host a games, but every time we weren't able to find each other. Does any of these abnormalities have to do with SMC's built-in firewall function, if so, is there any way I can temporarily bypass it or assign authorities to certain programs to override the protection?
I've used ZoneAlarm personal edition prior to getting the SMC router, I always had to shut it down when playing Internet multiplayer games but NOT when voice chatting in MSN Messenger. But now neither works with the SMC router, can anyone please help?
