Help with Single SATA HD on Asus K8N-E Deluxe

Ok, its been 3-4 years since I've built a PC. I finally saved enough pennies to get a new system. I bought the AMD Athlon 64 3700+ and chose the MOBO from the AMD recommended mobo for this CPU.
I did not realize that this mobo's big feature was the RAID stuff. I have never dealt with it. After reading all the manuals for RAID, and the mobo manual, I am thinking that I have to have 2 or more HD's to run this mobo. Can I run one HD on this mobo? Is anyone running this mobo with one HD? If I have to I guess I'll go out and get a "twin" for the one HD that I already bought. Thanks for any info/ideas.
