Assim1 sent me the 2.70 beta client so I could test it out (thanks dude! :)). I can't get it to take MisterM's Email address! I had the CL client installed in the directory I put the 2.70 client. I put it there because this directory is shared so I can monitor it with SetiWatch. The first time I installed it I forgot to remove the existing info from the CL client so it pulled my address info. I stopped it and deleted all the CL client stuff there. I removed all the files in that directory and installed the 2.70 client again. I configured it to run all the time, connect automatically, and to use my proxy (SetiQ). This time I was prompted to enter new or existing user info. I put MisterM's address in and the client grabbed a WU from my SetiQ proxy. Then I noticed that my name (Robor) was there instead of his. What am I doing wrong? SetiQ doesn't determine the user info does it?

BTW, I'm about 20 minutes into a WU and it's running pretty quick. Started slow but it's picking up speed as time passes. The box it's running on was my 2nd best box now it's tops in my SetiWatch list. Looks good! :)

Edit: I shared this (with permission) with rleach2 and he's having the same problem I am with it not taking MisterM's address. He installed it to a totally different directory. What gives?! He is also using SetiQ...

Yep, I'm almost 100% sure that the clients get the user info from whatever SETIQ says. Does the computer you're trying 2.70 on have a separate internet connection so you could run the client without SETIQ?

This box is on our LAN so I can set it to use our proxy server instead of SetiQ. They are running on the same machine so I guess all I'd have to change is the port number. The only downside is the box would be at the mercy of the SETI servers for getting work units but they've been pretty stable except for the recent downtime.

I'll give that a try after this WU finishes (I can't bear to kill a WU with less than 2 hours left).

Thanks!

Rob

PS - I'll pass this info on to rleach2.

sukhoi & office boy: You were right. I set it to port 80 instead of 5512 and it downloaded a unit from the SETI server rather than my SetiQ.

Wow, this client is fast. My estimate is 20%-30% faster. I'm getting almost 108Mflops on a P3/550 CAS3 Win98SE. From what I can see MisterM should be getting about 4WU's/day from me on this box. Not bad, eh? :D

Any ideas when this client will be available to the public? A 20%-30% increase in output will be nice.

Thanks guys!

Awesome. Do you have any idea how big the WUs are for the new client? Since I only have 60ns EDO SIMMs with my Celeron 433, my SETI times stink. It would be awesome if they got the new WU size below 128 KB so it could stay in my cache. :)

Sukhoi: When the 2.70 client downloaded a WU it was the usual 350K in size. That smaller unit size is a cool idea though. Isn't that why the 512K off-die Pentium's are faster than the 256K on-die Pentiums at the same speed? I remember reading somewhere on the SETI site that they weren't going to drop the WU size but it wasn't related to the new client or anything. It was somewhere in the FAQ.

MisterM: You're welcome! Enjoy! :D My buddy (rleach2) at the other branch is going to put a box up for you as well. He's having a UPS problem down there now but hopefully before the end of the day...

Robor, yep, that's why the the 512 KB cache PIII's are faster. I believe the size of the data that's actually worked on is just over 512 KB but under 1 MB, which is why there's no speed difference between 1 MB and 2 MB Xeons.
