Help with Server 2008 Domain Controller problem!

I have a machine with Windows Server 2008. It is the primary (only) domain controller. AD was working fine.

I decided the weird name Windows gave the machine wouldn't be suitable for a domain controller, so I renamed it through system properties.

Now AD doesn't work, and it won't let me change the name back using the same method. Additionally, none of the MS help on "forcing the removal" of domain controller functionality works.

Help!!

You're supposed to use netdom to rename a DC. However, I have no clue if it will work for you because I've never been in that situation where the machine name was already changed and it's the one and only DC for the domain. Can you even log in with a Domain Admin account?

Good Luck. This is why you need to research changes before you make them when you don't know the consequences.

Edit: Glad to hear things worked out. Just make sure to check your logs and verify that AD is functioning properly.
