Help with replacement fan

Hi,

I need a new fan for my video card. A picture's worth a thousand words so here's one:

http://home.comcast.net/~eric2203/fan.jpg

I can only find fans with a "case" around them. This one has the screw holes underneath. The shape fits the heatsink just fine. I believe it's a 40mm x 10mm.

Thanks in advance for any help.

What video card do you have? In most cases you can get an NV or ATSilencer that will perform better than the stock cooler for only a few dollars more than just a fan with shipping

First post. So howdie.

Here's what I would do. Use a ball bearing fan of the same size and wattage, carefully cut
the three legs at the frame, lightly sand the surface of the back side fan label and the back side of the bits of legs left, make sure the card surface is clean but a tiny bit rough,
press it in place with a light coating of silicone adhesive where it meets the card, wait 24
for it to fully cure and reinstall the card.

I use GOOP over super glue for this type of thing because it tolerates thermal cycling better.
Super glue can/will crack over time and lose it's bond. GOOP has a VG temp tolerance.

I tried to look for your part on Sunon's U.S. site, but the links to their catalogs failed. Here's there contact info. Try getting ahold of them and asking where you can buy the model you need.

Thanks for the replies so far.

The card is a Geforce FX 5600. The heatsink is still on the GPU. The fan fits in the middle of it.

I'm not sure I'm willing to go through the trouble of doing a custom job, considering the value of the card at this point in time.

I tried to look on Sunon's website too, but I guess the part numbers have changed. Could it be that it came with the heatsink in 1 part ? Not that that would help me, because I don't want to try to get that heatsink off the GPU...

Use 4 dots of GOOP and a 60mm fan over the port. I did that for a FX5200's nasty/noisy fan. I pick up cheap fans when I order other stuff from BGMicro or AllElectronics. The 60 mm fans are like $2.50. I have extras here, come to Long Beach, Ca. and I'll give you one. Gotta buy your own GOOP.

If it's a 45 mm then there's one on that URL. If you buy from Directron, be prepared to buy something else since they charge 7 bux for shipping. Ack.

Thanks. That's the type I need but I need a 40mm one. At least I now know they're called "bury frame" fans. I checked Evercool website and they have what they call "insert fans", which would be what I need, and they have a 40mm one, but I can't find it anywhere. Frustrating...

I hot glue gunned an 80mm fan on to my heatsink when the fan went. You have to be a little more adventurous.

Doesn't your HSF melt the hot glue when you have your CPU at full load? or at least makes it softer?
