Help with reg crash

So I go to turn on my 98 machine and it says "windows error cannot load registry, do you want windows to fix it? Like an idiot I say Ok. So it reboots and now my Radeon and NIC drivers are gone. Resolution is jacked also. Only lets me have 2 or 16 colors and only 640X480 pixels. Question (1)What could have happened? I do use a Linksys KVM switch between 2 machines, and when switching back to the W2K box, I see a flash of a picture which was the desktop on the 98 box (no longer there). Question (2) could booting both machines at the same time somehow sent conflicting data through the switch and messed up the boot process? I've not had any problems with either machine, actually only one crash since January. Thanks

Were you trying to OC the system ?

I Know windows backs up previous Reg files as *.bak
I can't remeber the name but hopefully someone does.

No OC, jsut running a duron 750 w/stock HSF, Iwill KK266R, 2-quantum fireball 40 gig (raid 0), radeon LE, netgear FA311 NIC, 512MB Crucial. This box has run great since I put it together, and I was just on it 15 minutes prior. I will check out the .bak files though thanks. Actually I forgot something, the machine kept going into hibernation or standby whatever, after around 1/2 hour of non use. I have standby set to "never" don't have HD's turn off either so I don't know why it would do this.
