Help with re-install

Ok.

I have the XP CD. I upgraded my Win2K installation (but I thought I checked off erase partition).

I love XP. It's amazing how it recognized hardware and I am burning CD's in the first hour of using it. I want to format my drive, and install XP on it by itself. The one thing is, I don't have a floppy drive (don't kill me).

I am kinda a new PC user and didn't think I'd need one. Is there anyway to format my drive and install XP with this CD I have? How should I do this?

If you're gonna laugh or bash this post, don't bother posting. I don't care what you think.

Isn't there an option for partitioning your drive?
You know, like W2K/NT4 has.

Just boot from your XP cd and see what happens.

Yes, depending on which xp version you have. If you have the devilsown version it should already be bootable. Just put it in the cdrom, reboot and when it says hit any key to boot from cd rom do so and follow instructions. Try it anyway no matter which version you have. If it still don't work you can still use iso buster and re-burn using a boot bin to make it bootable. Check it first though, chances are it probably is.

Well, it should be bootable...I already installed using it and everything...I just didn't see an option for formatting. I'll try again I guess

Well, I just tried again. It doesn't give you an option of formatting your hard drive at all during the XP installation. I need to format this thing. Can I get into DOS or something and do it?

jcontonio, if it's the same as installing Win2k, it sounds like you are doing an upgrade, which won't give you partitioning options.
If you choose clean install near the start of setup, it will give you formatting options, and you should be OK.

Nope, I selected clean install both times. But I still find all my users for Win2K in the Documents and Settings directory, as well as all my other programs. All it does is upgrade. I want to format. I guess I'll just have to get partition magic and format the drive, then hope that the XP CD will boot normally...
