Help with question about library networking

Alright hopefully you guys can help out; this was just a challenge question I was looking for the answer.....

A city has 5 libraries, all the libraries have three stand-alone pc's, each three close together in a reference room, only the main library has all of its card catalog online and available through its three pcs and Novell server. the software purchased would allow all libraries to store their card catalogs also, if only they were connected, I need to try to come up with a solution for installing networks at the four satellite libraries and a way of connection all sites. ??? PLEASE help, also a list of equipment would be great?.thanks?.

Some kind of internet connection (t1 or DSL would be fine)

Some kind of VPN capable router (cisco, sonicwall, linksys, et all)

Cable and network cards for the PCs.

You, sir, are all set.

It?s just a hypothetical question ... only the main library has all of its card catalog online and available through its three pcs and Novell server. So I?m not sure if it has internet or not, and as for the other libraries I?m assuming that they don't have any internet, at all. So would the best way still be to sign each of the libraries up for DSL? Also since the main branch already has their card catalog online and using Novell server, what would I have to use in order to make sure they were all connected?

Here is what I was thinking.....

In each of the 4 satellite libraries you sign up for DSL, which will get you 4 cable modems, so then you need to also get 4 routers to connect the 3pcs in each library to the internet. ?? But what kind of software would I need to use to have all the libraries store there own card catalogs as well as be connected? (Probably Novell since the main branch is using that). But maybe I?m looking at it the wrong way with the DSL??

I would like to come up with another idea besides a VPN.

Here is the question one more time....

...so i was looking at it like they all just had to be connected, but now that i re-read the question, I see that each library is going to have to have there own card catalog "online" as well as them being connected ... hmmm

You should look into the Lic. too. I would not be surprise that having all the Lib. thier own Catalog might involve buying addtional Lic.
