Hello everybody,

I am hoping that someone can offer some suggestions. I have an older system that I would like to slowly upgrade...for the time being I am stuck with this.

Ultra TX2 installation problems, seem to be related to memory resources conflict, with the video card (?) primarily.
No problem with IRQ.

System spec:

- Win98SE
- PII300
- Gigabyte 686LX motherboard (ATA33 on-board controller)
- BIOS rev. 2.4c supporting up to 40G drives
- PCI 2.1
- 192 MB SDRAM
- recently new Seagate 7200.7 40G ATA100 drive (has been running great on on-board IDE)
- 3COM 905-PTO network card
- ATI Rage Pro 8MB AGP video card
- Voodoo 2 PCI video card
- Soundblaster soundcard ISA (I know, don't laugh, does the job for what I need)

I wanted to utilize the ATA100 capability of the Seagate drive, by adding
the Promise Ultra TX2 controller.

- initial try per ULTRA TX2 instructions - system hanged after win boot menu (which I left enabled)
(*) could boot into 'SAFE' mode
- repeated using different PCI slots - same result
- removed NIC and Voodoo card
- repeated - same result

Connected drive back to on-board IDE controller, removed TX2
- prepared boot diskette with latest TX2 bios and drivers
- reinstalled TX2 and updated bios - OK
- booted OK, detected TX2, and installed drivers from diskette
- rebooted OK to desktop, except video problem - win reported video card conflict
- Device Manager (Resources) indicated memory conflict
- IRQ 'OK' on IRQ3

Details of memory conflict, as shown under 'Resources Tab'
- conflict with 'system board extension for PnP bios'
- conflict with 'ATI RAGE Pro video card'
- and Video card conflict with PnP bios (as above)

Tried to change memory settings i.e. unchecked 'Use automatic settings' under 'Resources Tab'
- would not allow change for video card or PnP bios
- allowed change for TX2 - changed to 'no conflict' regions
- this refreshed the ULTRA TX2 on the Device Manager to 'OK' status (i.e. no yellow exclamation marks)
- video card still showed conflict with 'PnP bios' at this point
- rebooted - hang up after win boot menu...

Removed TX2. Back to on-board IDE.

Any suggestions how to resolve this would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Using the latest drivers from the Promise website? My configuration is quite different, but I've had no problems with my U100TX2.
