I'm planning to get the setup below:

http://secure.newegg.com/WishL...47&WishListTitle=first

Everything that will ever go in this build is on the wishlist, except for:: a DVD drive;; a floppy drive;; and a sound card if needed

The Antec mAtx case comes with an Antec Earthwatt EA 380 W power supply;

1. so does anyone think this'll be a SuStaInAble PSU option for hd4850?

2. and any other comment on the build that comes to mind is very much appreciated

3. how much leeway do i have for possible minor future upgrades with this PSU, like wireless access points etc

thanks all

Probably okay. Others have run similar power draw setups with that PSU. What will be your usage pattern?

hey i think ur compromising on the processor and board
i have a g33 based board and iam having many problems ocing it u knw
i donno wheither its the board causing me the problems or it is another thing
i think u should go with a e8400 intel chip and a p35 or x38 based board man
i dont knw much abt the quad core lineup but i recommend u check it out also
and hey u didnt post ur budget man for the psu
i have using the cooler master psu (600watt extreme power) i bought it for abt 90$ and it is didnt get any kind of issues from it
back in india (the place where i live) ppl in my locality usually go wid the psu that comes wid the cabinet i think i was the first guy in my locality to buy a cooler master psu
hahah :p
all the best man wid the new build

thanks zap and ganesh1 for the suggestions; I will probably be leaving the new build on 24/7 with occasional gaming that probably lasts several hours at a time

I don't actually have a budget, but I'd like to upgrade again when nehalem comes around (next year?), and by then everything on market today is likely to be incompatible with the new processors, so pretty much I just wanted to replace my current 5-yr-old computer with something that can playablly play all the new games. But of course, I'd still want quality, but not neccessarily the most advanced, components for my new computer since I don't want it to die in just a year =)

I went with the mAtx case because I won't have a whole lot of stuff to go into the case, and it seemed like a good combo ($120 on newegg), but if I need a higher rated psu, then I'd go look for another case as well :)

If you're only planning to use it for a year, then go for it. Push that EA380!

I have the NSK2480, and it's not a bad case, but I wouldn't pay $120 for it. Unless you specifically need the horizontal layout, you might consider the Antec Sonata III, which includes a 500W Earthwatts unit that will have no problem powering things.

Also, I disagree with ganesh in part. The E7200 is a great overclocker. Whether or not your board is up to the task, I have no personal experience.

+1

If I had to spend ~$125 on a case/PSU combo... the Sonata III would be my choice without reserve. 500W EarthWatts PSU goes for around $90 on NewEgg right now... meaning about $35 for a very quality case.

EDIT: Right now on NewEgg, the Sonata III w/ EA500 PSU has been dropped to $99.95!! If I wasn't so happy with my Antec P182 I'd be all over that... the Sonata III was my backup option.

Another possibility for around $120...

CoolerMaster Centurion 5 - $49.99

Corsair VX450 PSU - $74.99 (plus $15 rebate is $59.99)

Total Cost: $124.98 (before $15 MIR)

Moo.
