Help with PC not seeing hd

Ok, I have a Maxtor 160 gig hd that I use as a secondary hd. Tonight I switched my hd's from one pc to another (actually the Maxtor hd was put back into the pc it use to be in). Anyway, after I put the hd back into this pc...the hd isn't working.

Here's the problem...the hd shows up in the bios and detects fine. But when I boot into Windows XP Pro...it's not there..even under Admin Tools. When I boot with Norton Ghost 9.0 , it doesn't show it either. I have also booted with Partition Recovery floppy...it doesn't show it.

I'm looking for suggestion here...could the hd just be dead? But wouldn't it no longer show up in the bios if it were?

TIA!

Well, that is a good answer...but the jumper is set correctly 🙂 I've tried it as a slave and as a master...in that correct order.

I've had a bad HD show up in the bios, then refuse to format. Also, Maxtor's HD utility couldn't find it.

You might want to try it on another HD controller.

Yes, I've had a loose Molex cable to HD and it made detection sketchy in BIOS as well. Check both the IDE and Molex.

I finally got it to work...I had to put my cd rom and the hd (a Maxtor) on CS, cable select. Once I did that went into admin tools I got it working.
