help with PC Anywhere

I've installed the host version of PC Anywhere (v 11.5) on a friends PC. His setup is as follows. He has Qwest DLS with a Cisco 678. Then, a DLink DI-524 is connected. I'm trying to access his machine from my home. I've set this up before with a Linksys router and it worked fine. However, this guy has a new PC and I'm betting I overlooked something simple. Seems to usually be the case when something happens. Any ideas?

DLink router is configured correctly to allow 5631/5632 to pass through to the correct IP for his machine. The only thing that comes to mind at this point is that I may have overlooked adjusting the firewall to let PC Anywhere access to this machine.

Also, it sounds like you can setup PC Anywhere to access more than one machine on the LAN. Apparently you just need to assign different ports to use (other than 5631/5631 since they were used already on the LAN by another machine). Which ports make sense to assign?

I have pcanywhere set up on two pc's at home. You are correct, just assign different port #'s for each machine. I think I use 7000/7001 and 7002/7003 or something.
You just make a seperate remote for each of the pc's.

As ar as it not letting you connect. One of the things I always forget is to go into the Tools/Options on the Host machine. Go to the Host COmmunication tab. Click on Advanced TCP/IP Options and make sure the ports are correct in there.

I think what you overlooked is the DSL modem itself. The modem I have seen Qwest send out, is a router also. So even if you opened ports in his Dlink, without ports opened on the DSL modem, it will not work.

For example. I set up my dad's network. He has DSL coming into the house and thru a modem. The modem is basically a one port modem. I logged into the modem to forward ports to two PC Anywhere remotes on his network.

After his modem, I have a cable going into a lan port of a wireless router. I am basically just using that router as a 4 port switch and WAP. The WAN port on that thing is empty.

its most likely the firewall not letting you in. I spent about 4hours back and forth on a machine with XP PRO w/ SP2, and finnally someone asked me about the firewall setup, then it all made sence.

Well....I had this setup previous and it worked great. The only thing different is that I'm know using the DLink 524 (802.11g) instead of an older Linksys that was 802.11b.

There is a Cisco 678 that the DLink is attached to where the Linksys used to be attached to.

Also, I see you can access several PCs on a LAN with PC Anywhere by assigning different ports to different PCs in the router. How does the router know where to direct you as the PC itself will ask for the login info?
