Help with Painkiller

Old game, but kind of fun except I got to Castle Level Checkpoint 4 and cannot progress...killed all skeletons in Castle Level Checkpoint 4 (including one behind the door) and cannot proceed to next level which is Castle checkpoint 5. No skeletons left and no way out! Do I need a patch? Bought this game two months age from Dreamcatcher. Found not a clue on their website. Help!

I just finished Painkiller and moved on to Battle out of Hell. Trying to recall that level. Make sure you go back and check for doors that may have opened after you killed the last skeleton.

also, is the battle music still playing or is it the subdued atmospheric music?

Doors all open, no skeletons left. Also, battle music is still playing. I have searched this level over and over...nothing.

If battle music is still playing then at least one skeleton is still alive. May need to restart from the third checkpoint. I think I had this happen to me at least once.

Okay, remind me, is this the level where you start out on a broken bridge and it's the introduction to the rolling dogs? This is also where you can mess around with a trebuchet (not that it does anything)? If so, I had the same problem. Come to find out I missed a skeleton in a deadend hallway back around the beginning of the fourth checkpoint.

Yes, finding everything in that game can be a real pain

😛

Great early use of the Havok Physics engine for an old game .. it was one of my favorite FPSes

How is the very latest expansion (07?), now that it is bargain bin?
- Overdose

Yeah, Painkiller: Overdose (2007). I haven't played it but from the reviews it was good. Gamespot gave it a 7/10.

Well, i would say both PK and BOoH we at least both "8"
-'bugs' can be a serious issue in these games; Has OD been patched satisfactorily?

- i remember a couple of guys got it here and the reviews were mixed

if it is $10, i would play it perhaps
- i loved the weapons' "combos" and the hard to reach secret locations

Searching on Filefront shows there was a patch added early this year (Patch 1). It does address some bugs. The review on Gamespot said there were visual slowdowns in the game, anyone who's played it through can tell us better.

It's crap compared to the previous two. The original is the best by far and BOOH is pretty refreshing with the new weapons and stuff. Overdose is just lame.

Btw anyone tried to get all the secret items in the City on Water level. There's a golden item on a balcony, I'd rather sell a kidney than getting that again. Not to mention the ones on top of the cranes in another level. Damn, I think I'll have to play it again..

That was the one item I didn't get on the Water Level. I read the walkthrough to get it and said " F that!"

yep, according to the walkthrough, i got 'em all .. *every* "secret" place!
- it is just "timing" .. i had to do jumps like that in N64's Castlevania; what 20 years ago? .. and if you failed, you went WAAY back to the checkpoint to start over 😛

damn, i love "anytime save"

I had to use the walkthrough as well, I finally got every damn item everywhere and played on insomnia-nightmare-trauma just to get the real ending, but damn, that's a shitload of work to do. My respects for the guy(s) who wrote the walkthrough, I'd get old to discover all that and write about it.

I haven't played Painkiller BOOH but after reading through the posts here....I'll be getting it! 🙂

Many of these walkthrough hints come from the devs themselves

imo PK/BOoH are classic FPS with some real "depth" that take it way beyond the Serious Sam type of game

Still, pretty funny stuff in Serious Sam. It was a nice game as well. I remember vaguely a cemetery(at night of course) and between the dozens of crosses there was a surf board instead of a cross on top of a grave. Or his mother on the phone and the hell was breaking loose around him.

You can't compare the two. Painkiller should be seriously considered for sequels.

You can't compare the two.
Sure i can. 😛
- i just did

They are *both* great games; both FPSes, both with HORDES of enemies on the screen; both with awesome overkill weapons .. and both are Dark humor - PK being much darker
- they have plots that are the thinnest but hold the action together very well

PK did have 2 sequels including '07 - Overdose
- yeah, i want to see them Take Heaven

Interesting you say that cause PK uses the SS engine. But, I agree, I do like having the "tasks" in order to get the cards. It's an interesting reward system.

They should consider a demon mode for Sam should there be another sequel. I remember a canyon in the First Encounter I think, there were like 3000 enemies charging the poor bastard
