I recently purchased a 3.4 p4 775. My mobo is a Asus p5p800. Out of the box the temp was 65 C according to the Asus probe software that came with the system. The stock hsf was also extremely noisy. So I purchased a Thermaltake Silent 775. Now the noise level is acceptable, however the temp is hovering around 65. My case is just a lousy generic case, but I plan on purchasing a TT Tsunami around xmas. What else can I do to bring my temps down? Please help before my cpu fries!!

PS As I write this the cpu temp is at 69 C!!! The mobo is at 39 C.

Does your fan from your power supply blow onto your chip..?... I saw that one time and it made us get super high temps.. other than that maybe you should check your CMOS.

Thanks for replying Green.
PS fan is blowing out the back like it should. It feels pretty warm, though.

Could this be a case of not enough or too much thermal paste?

I have 2 LGA775 P4 3.4's and have had similar problems. Going from a Northwood S478, I did expect some heat issues since the Prescotts run HOT. I have tried 4 different HSF's with no apprarent solution. My temps idle in the 44c range and are 65c at load.

After much research, I read that on the LGA775 processors, the placement of the thermal compound is key. I use AS and usually apply a very thin amount on the processor before installing the HSF. I should say a very, very thin layer. After my research, it became apparent that after removing the HSF's, any of them, the only contact to the processor was around the edges. So I applied a more healthy amount and installed the HSF. Temps idle are now 37C and full load about 50C with the same HSF.

Wow - that a hell of a difference.

I'm having the same problem. I'm even getting a System Zone 1 Temp. of 50c. So just try AS instead of the Intel Pad?
