Help with P3-800 Using Abit Slotket !!!

Hello all, as the title states, I am having a problem using my p3-800 on an Abit Slotket !!!
I'm trying to use it on an Abit BX6-2
Does it make a difference if I set the jumpers on the slotket to auto or to the specific settings?
I have the the fsb jumpers set to 133mhz and coppermine, and I have the voltage jumpers set to auto.
What do I set my settings to in the softmenu in the bios?
I tried setting the fsb to 133mhz and multiplier to 6x, and the voltage to 1.7v, but when I boot up it counts the ram, and then says cpu not recognized or something like that.
Are there other settings that I am supposed to set?
I THINK (not 100% sure) my ram is only rated at PC100. I'm guessing that might be the problem, but I'm not sure. Is that what would happen if I used ram that wasn't good enough?
I know these are stupid questions, but please help!
 
I am running a BX6R2, with a Slotket and coppermine 850 with 100 FSB.

I would initially set your Slotket jumpers to auto. Set your FSB in BIOS to 100. When you set it to 133, you are overclocking and yes your ram may be the problem, among other things. The mutilplier is something I am not certain about. Try setting it at 8. If you are running the last BIOS release, you should have mutipliers up to 9.5. The multiplier may not even matter. The Slotket may take over. Set your voltage to the requirements of the processor. 1.7 or is it 1.75?

If I understand the function of the Slotket correctly, (and I may not) on auto, it should automatically detect your CPU as being 133 FSB and will run it at that speed.

You do not want to overclock at this point until you can get it to correctly detect the processor and boot into your OS.

As i said, my CPU is running at 100 FSB, so I don't have the same situation you do. My Slotket jumpers are on auto, my BIOS setting are the values as specified for the CPU.

I'm not sure if I have the latest bios. How do I find out? The multiplier settings range from 2.5x to 9x and the voltage setting range from 1.3v to 2.3v if that means anything. I didn't try setting it at 100mhz though. Can I do that? I mean, can I set the cpu for 8x100mhz even it is supposed to be 6x133mhz?
 
When you first boot up, in the lower left hand corner there will be a series of letters and numbers. There will be a date in there and the last two letters will be QR if you have the last and final BIOS release. Date should be around 5/8/2000.

I understand your concern. But my thinking on this is that the Slotket obviously supports 133 FSB. The board itself only supports 100 FSB. If you set the Slotket to auto and the BIOS to 100, it will run your system FSB on 100 and the Slotket will run the processor at 133 FSB.

Sharper people than myself around here will know if that series of CPU is "multiplier locked". You used to be able to overclock by changing the multiplier. Intel began locking the multiplier so that a CPU could not be overclocked in that manner. Overclocking must now be achieved by increasing the speed of the FSB. Our BX6R2's will do this. However, the other components in your system may not be able to run at 133 FSB. That is the crux of my instructions here. To attempt to boot without overclocking in any way shape or form.

If the CPU is multiplier locked, and I am nearly certain it is, the system will not boot with the multiplier set at 8. But if it will, it's because the Slotket is able to make the compensations necessary to recognize and run the CPU at it's proper settings. FSB, voltage and multiplier.

As I alluded to earlier, I am not certain the Slotket can compensate in that manner. It may not be designed to run a 133 FSB CPU on a 100 FSB board.

If you had components in your system that you knew would run at 133 FSB, you could set your BIOS to 133 and 6 and it should work.

I'm sorry this is a very long post. I hope some of this has made sense to you. My thoughts are sometimes random and scattered. If I were you, I would post in CPU/Processors and Overclocking. Someone there may know. Although I could not get an answer on this very question months back. That's why I picked up an 850 with 100 FSB.
