Help with Overclocking

Hi,

I purchased a bunch of PC parts recently but I'm still waiting on my E6600 to come in and the way things are going I might be changing my plans for an E6400. My other parts (already bought and received) are:

Asus P5W DH Deluxe MB
OCZ Gold XTC PC2-5400 Memory
Seagate 7200.9 SATA II 160 GB HDD
Scythe Mine

I originally wanted to get the E6600 to match the X6800 in terms of clock speed, but I was wondering if it were possible to get 3.0 GHz using the E6400 instead. I understand the relation between CPU speed - FSB - Memory speed in a Conroe, and it seems to me that the best I can hope for is 2.66 GHz CPU speed. Is there anything I can do to get this higher (overclock ram, mem dividers, etc.) If anyone could explain how I'd get to that point it would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to AT.

As far as RAM concern, OCZ RAM, especially the gold series, generally are not compatible w/ Asus mobos. But some people do get the pair to work.

Asus P5W isn't too bad a pair for E6600, but you might have to get some Corsair RAM if the OCZ RAM doesn't work out.

I don't have a Asus P5W, so I can't tell you the details on how to OC w/ this mobo. Might wanna search around for threads w/ people using the Asus P5W as their OC mobo.
