Right now im running Mobile 2400 at 177x12 (2126mhzat 1.5 volts. I got an ALX800 with a Smartfan 2 at full RPM. Case temps are 27 idle, and they dont rise at all. Cpu is 38 idle, not sure what is load becuase I dont have the thermalprobe from my rheobus hooked up to it yet. (I recently got a rheobus/thermal monitor combo for a 5.25 bay, but dont have it all hooked up yet) If the cpu temp is high, its probably becuase I used too much thermal paste.

Since the fan is at full rpm, its loud as hell. I tried hooking the cpu fan to the rheobus, but the computer only boots up windows when the cpu fan is plugged into the mobo. It gets to the windows loading screen, but then cuts off if the fan is not hooked to the mobo. Any ideas to fix this? (i just fixed this problem, hooked a low rpm 120mm fan to the cpu spot and hooked the cpu fan to the rheobus. I lowered the noise a hell of a lot by lowing the fan from 5100 rpm to 4500 rpm, but it raised temps from 36.5-37 idle to 38-39 idle) Not sure if its a big difference as far as temps go, but its much easier to sleep with. Pretty much all the noise there now is just the sound of air running.

The temps are from Abit Eq software on the Abit nf7-s im running.

I tried using CPU-z (accoring to CPU-z, my voltage is 1.488 also) to find stepping, but all it said for stepping was 0. I already have the heatsink on, and it is a big pain to remove a lot of stuff to see what it says on the cpu. Whats a good program to find the stepping? Also, how are those stats? How accurate is the thermal monitor on the motherboard? Does it over estimate the temps or is it dead on?

Temperature monitoring programs are never really that accurate, I'm not exactly sure why. Your temperatures and voltage are low enough to not worry about it. As for determining your stepping without actually looking at the processor :-\ I am not famliar with any program that can determine that sorry.

Im guessing this means Im going to have to take off the heatsink, check the stepping, attach the thermal probe, and reapply the thermal paste. Doesn't sound like much, but man it sucks to have to undo all the cables and stuff. Oh well, I changed the voltage again. The bio said 1.525 volts, but everything indicated 1.5. Went to the bios and fixed it, dropped my temps by 2.5 degrees.

I'd be cool as hell if this mobo is over reading the temps...

Btw, when applying the thermal paste, should it be put on the heatsink and the cpu, or just one. I put a layer on both, but thermalright heatsinks are well cut to start with, so its probbaly overkill giving me slightly higher temps. Also, how close to the cpu die should I put the thermalprobe w/ the thermal tape?

Apply a thin layer of thermal paste to the cpu dye.

What ram do you have? It's best to raise the FSB as much as possible as this (almost always) provides better performance per mHz increased.

I got a stick of Mushkin pc 3200 512. It's from the green series. I'm running it at 2.5-3-3-8. Thats the optimal setting on the motherboard. Not the best stuff, but it supose to be rock stable and run well at 200mhz, but I want to reset the heatsink and install the temp probe before I really try cranking this beast. I tried raising the FSB to 200 with the cas settings at 2.5-3-3-7, but it wouldn't load windows. (this was a while ago) How risky would it be to raise the voltage a bit?

I'm also getting wierd problems. When my brother runs Max Payne 2 or Farcry, the game restarts or the whole computer restarts.

Could this be becuase of not enough voltage going to the cpu? Or is it a software thing? Unless the cpu monitor on my motherboard is way off, I'ts definately not the tempurature. Is it possible that the non-standard fasb could be doing something?

Mt application looked kinda chunky compared to those. Not as smooth...

What should I use to remove thermal paste from the cpu ide and hsf?

Your temps are fine. Try raising the core voltage a little. Also go into the bios and check your voltages.
Are they stable?

What kind of power supply are you running?

run prime 95, if it gets errors, try upping voltage. if it still fails, try taking the clock down, games crashing is *probably* gonna be caused by hardware getting pushed too far... you can also try the patches for both those games, v1.1 is out for both..
