Help with Overclocking Radeon 9700NP

Sup all,
I just purchased a Built By ATI Radeon 9700NP 128MB DDR. To my suprise the Core and Memory clock are only 263.25/263.25 according to Rage3D. My card has Infineon memory. The card also has the OEM ATI Fan and Heatsink. I want to know how much can i overclock the card SAFELY without any physical modifications. I do not plan to add another heatsink and etc. Please share some ideas with me and shed light on this situation. Thanks.

What's safe? Well OC and find out. If that's a built by ATI card then I'm pretty sure the bios is locked so you can't OC at all, but try it and tell us how it goes.

go up on the the GPU in 5mhz increments testing each change. Continue until you get even the slightest artifact. Then lower the GPU by 15mhz, and begin doing the same to the MEM. You should get a higher overclock from the GPU, but you have to figure out which setting is best for your card. On my 9700PRO at full overclock, if I lower the GPU a little, and am able to raise the MEM. I get more FPS by raising the GPU as these cards are not really bandwidth limited. If you get to 325GPU/310MEM then you got a 970PRO. Good luck on this time consuming process.

yea..i'll have to do that...

I tried 280/280 but it locked up and gave me a hell offa trouble..so im going to take it slowly now.

Are you using Stock Cooling? also Did you OC ur Card into PRO? Or did you buy it pro?

I bought a PRO and I get around 345-355 on the GPU and 340-345 on the MEM without any additional cooling. If I leave the MEM at 310 (stock) I can get 365-370 on the GPU which is the sweet spot for the 3d marks, I usually leave it stock, because I have cheap PSU that with all the fans, and lights is about to give up.

Hmmm..ok...

My 9700 is actually a 9700TX which Dell uses. The memory clock of the TX are 263/263. I am wondering, are these just lower clocked cards? Can i use a BIOS to make it into a differently clocked card?

Built by ati cards are locked for overclocking, or softmodding?

So there is NO way i can change the BIOS or SOFTMOD IT? No way to even UNLOCK it?

Well, since you can't find rage3d on your own, here is a link to one of the threads about the Del 9700 TX.

If you persevere to the end, it seems he got to something like 324/290.

The RAM is probably Infineon 3.3 or 3.6, so that's as good as it gets probably.
