Help with Outlook Express

Hi, and thanks for reading,

My current system is running:
Win2K
Sygate 4
VNC

Whenever I open Outlook Epxress, I get an error:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.pacbell.net', Server: 'mail.pacbell.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Just a few days ago everything was fine. I installed Sygate Firewall
and things still worked. I tweaked the firewall and the next morning I couldn't open e-mail. I deinstalled the firewall and I still have problems. I'm not sure if it's a PacHell server problem, but I don't want to spend two hours on the phone to find out either. So, any help would be nice.

Thanks,
D

Shut down the firewall and see if you can get your mail. If you can, the firewall tweaking went awry. If not, tring pinging that server. One of these two steps will tell you something.

Thanks,

I can ping mail.pacbell.net but I still get the same error when connecting. I now have no firewall at all, and still nothing. Someone give me some advice.

As Always,
D

Just go into tools/accounts and select the pac.bell account and select properties. Click on advanced and remove the ticks from "this server requires a secure connection" and try again.

Your client is finding the server but it's not able to make a connection. SSL could be the reason. If not - post again or try the pac bell support! There is just a chance the server might be being strangled by a mail bomb or somesuch.

Yeah, usually if it works one day and not the next, it's due to a problem with the mail server on their end. Call them and find out if they are having any technical difficulties with their mail servers.
