Help with OS selection

I'm currently running Vista Ultimate 64-bit on the rig in my sig below.
I'd like better performance in games and benchmarking, and I hear XP is still the choice OS for gaming... however here is my only issue. I have 4gb of ram, and I kinda don't want to downgrade that just for XP.

Is 64-bit XP a viable solution to this problem or should I stay away from it?

I'm also thinking of doing dual boot, but my other problem is that I have the upgrade copy of Vista Ultimate. If I end up buying 64-bit XP (pending everyone's opinion on the first questions), will I be able to do dual boot? I have a legit copy of 32-bit XP to use to install vista, and since i'll have a valid 64-bit XP, i'm hoping that I can somehow dual boot..
HELP 🙁

Thanks

better performance benchmarking? a 3DMark06 Score: 17,234 i would say there is nothing wrong with your system as is. what game problems are you having? Mem has over 60 games installed on 64 bit vista with no trouble at all. my suggestion is try to fix what ever is wrong. 64 bit vista is better than 64 bit XP IMHO.

I just heard that XP was superior in gaming and benchmarks. You know some people will do anything to get that 200more points in 3dmark! (perhaps me as well)

But if opinions are that it's not going to be all that helpful, than so be it

Gaming wise you are better off in the long run with Vista x64(unless you need to run 16 bit games),DX10 etc for one ,not to meantion future DX versions(ie DX11 etc).

It'll depends on the game in question, its give or take depending on the game and what site did the benchmarks etc....bottomline the gap in general is small and when you consider Vista has a longer life span plus DX10 etc which will be important in future games why bother going back to an OS that is coming to the end of its life with no DX10 support etc.

before i upgraded my pc i noticed a huge difference. But since the upgrade everything runs nice in vista. It could have been driver issues and such as it was a while ago. But yeah if you want DX 10 you need vista so it doesnt matter.
