Hi Everyone--
I am preparing to upgrade a friend's old HP Pavilion 8240. It is a P233 machine, running Win 95C. He wants to run a few older games a bit better than is currently possible with the specs it now has. It only has 32mbs of RAM, and I plan on adding as much of that as possible--I have some old sticks I'm not using, so I should be able to get it up to about 160 or so, a big improvement. The main problem I want to tackle is on the video side--it has an onboard video memory of only 1 MB(!), with no 3Dacceleration. I want to push it (gently! lol) into the world of 3D with a new card. Since it has no AGP slot, I have to go the PCI route.
My question is this: What was a good performing, stable PCI video card from back then (ca. 1998/99). I see some Voodoo 3 2000/3000 cards are still around; is that my best bet, and are there other alternatives that I'm not aware of? It would be nice to get the machine up to at least 16MB of vid memory...
Thanks for your ideas. And no, he's not up for getting a new system lol.
Chris
