I have a 15 year old television that I'm looking to hook up in my dorm room. The cable system in my school is set up so that the cable line goes directly from the wall into the television, with no cable box in between. Since there is no cable box, you have to change channels directly from the television, you can't leave the tv on channel 3 and change channels from the cable box. The problem is that the tv is so old, it only picks up the local channels, and very few of the cable channels. I was wondering if I could hook up a VCR, and use that to change channels, while leaving the TV on channel 3. Any suggestions?

Yes.... hooking a VCR up and using it as the "channel changer" will work just great.

Only prob is that you will not be able to record one channel, and watch another.....VCR's only have 1 tuner (far as I've ever seen)..... but thats prob not a major issue.

Other option is check out Radio Shack...maybe they have an external cable-tuner box that would work for you.

good Luck!

Let us know what u end up doing!

exactly what I did for my tv, and I was also able to hook up my comp to the tv through the connection on the vcr that were not on the tv. 2 birds 1 stone type deal.
