So, I won a 900+ mhz pentium III at the intel career show at school today. I have a P3BF motherboard with a 600 Mhz sitting in it. Can someone tell me if i can insert this guy in there without problems?
can i run the mobo at 133 mhz?
I am new to this, so hope you guys would be gentle.

In case I HAVE to change the mobo, what is the next best mobo. I have the sblive platinum, a winmodem, ATI Rage fury, Adaptech 39160 scsi card, fasttrack raid card, three ide drives, one 12x plextor, 1 10x dvd.

Yes, this board will run 133 bus, BUT
1) your memory will need to be able 133MHz
2) your videocard will need to be able to handle 89MHz AGP bus

Note on 1): you will want PC133 capable mem anyway if you buy a new board, so if it dont work get new mem first.
Note on 2): most modern vid cards will do it, but its something you will have to try.

Conclusion: try it, if it doesnt work, you can always go out and buy a new mobo. If it does work, be happy with a very very fast system!

Okay here's what the guy said (he didnt seem like an engineer, he was a career services guy). He said it was a pentium 900 something (his exact words), and he said it was a 133 Mhz.

In terms of memory, I have one stick on 128 MB viking RAM 133, and two sticks of 128 MB generic PC 100 RAM right now on my mobo.

If I decide to put the processor in on the p3bf, what do u guys suggest? Just use the single 128 MB stick of 133 memory or forget about doing 133 and do all three sticks? Which one will give me a bigger performance gain?

If it is a 900 it would run @100 (9.0x100). But I don't think there is a PIII 900, at least I have never seen one. What does the chip have printed on it?

Edit: Looked at Intel's web site, they don't show a PIII 900. Also look at some online places, no one lists a PIII 900.
