Help with new PC problem

Hello all,

I recently did an upgrade to my PC, my current components are as follows:

Gigabyte 970a-ds3 rev 3
AMD fx 6350
4gb ram ddr3 1600 mhz
nvidia gtx 560
1tb hdd
500w PSU

I am using windows 7 64 bit professional edition.

I am using all the components at stock values, motherboard uses optimized defaults in bios. I have had the gtx 560 for over a year(only upgraded cpu, ram and motherboard) and it's factory overclocked but it's been running without problems (it's an asus dc II top).

I am using programs to monitor temperatures and they are as follows during idle:
about 34 degrees Celsius for the CPU and about 42 for the GPU.

The problem with the pc is as follows:

Randomly, during idle, the input will freeze. That means i cannot operate the mouse (the cursor stays locked for a few seconds then dissapears) and the keyboard is locked as well (even pressing num lock does not change the status). What is weird is this does not happens during games, only during not so intensive tasks like browsing (i am using firefox). The only solution is to restart the pc.

I have the latest bios, drivers for the motherboard and from nvidia. I am using comodo internet security.

I can play games like crysis 3, tomb raider, max payne 3, borderlands 2, rift for hours and it will not crash, but when browsing it crashes randomly. Some days it does not crash, some days it crashes once and some days it crashed 2 or three times (once only a few minutes after restarting and going into firefox).

Has anyone ever experienced something like this ?

Looking forward to your answer,

Thanks.

Sounds like RAM might be the issue. Boot up the system with one stick at a time.

Also, what is the PSU brand/model number?

I only have one stick of ram (4gb ddr3 1600 mhz). It came free as a promotion with the amd cpu 🙂 . This is the type of ram i have: Kingston 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM HyperX Blu, on this Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A-DS3, socket AM3+, with this CPU: AMD FX X6 6350, 3900MHz, 14MB, socket AM3+, Box. Could it be a ram problem ? For example the input does not lock when gaming (for hours) or when watching youtube, only when browsing forums and simple pages. Once it locked just using total commander in windows. I also googled for tests and ran OCCT (cpu, memory and gpu) for 10 minutes and it did not report problems The PSU is from Antec.

Having problems during idle but never under load sounds like a voltage problem to me. Try bumping up your CPU Vcore by 5% or so.

I tried to raise from the bios but it still crashed so i reverted to optimised system defaults.

However this time altough i could not see the mouse cursor if i moved it the icons in windows would highlight, i was able to restart windows 🙂

Had about 2 crashes in the last few hours, but i could play crysis 3 for a few hours before just fine.

Edit: the keyboard was still locked, even pressing num-lock would not change the led status.

Scheduled a OCCT large data set test for an hour (it says it tests cpu + motherboard + ram).

It's been running for 24 minutes so far without problems (cpu usage is at 100%)

Below is a ipcture of occt and hwmonitor running, maybe someone more knowledgeable can spot a problem:

Could you recommend some methods to test for potential problems ?

I rarely disagree with you, but in this case I, like Torn Mind, think the RAM is a more likely culprit.
Download Ultimate Boot CD, burn it, and use to run Memtest86 - that's my suggestion.

Another thing, try editing the power settings to never turn off anything - failure to enter a power saving state might be the problem as well.

Leave HWmonitor running while idle and post a screenshot. Your vCore while boosted is about 0.033V too low, I want to see what it is while idle.
