I just did a fresh install of Win2k....I previously had Win98 installed. I converted the drive to NTFS and when the install was finished, upon restarting, it asks what OS I want to start with. Why is it doing this? I thought that a fresh install would get rid of the Win98 files??? I did not format the drive, but chose to do a fresh install from the disk when asked if i wanted to update or fresh install. How do I get rid of the Win98 files so that it doesn't ask which version I want to start with? Thanks for any input!

peace

ifyou didn't format, you should have been given the option to "dual boot" which you probably errantly selected, to get rid of 98, you should go into the 2k control panel to the add/remove programs icon, and remove win98--that should work.. if not, just format--tis worth it

As Hessakia said, if you want to get rid of Windows 98 you will need to format the Windows 98 partition, goto Start->Settings->Control Panel->Administration Tools->Computer Management, you will have the option there to connect to the [/i]Disk Management[/i] service, simply right click the Windows 98 partition and select Format ENSURE YOU SELECT THE CORRECT PARITION TO DELETE!.

You will then need to delete the Windows 98 entry from the bootup menu. To do this you could either manually edit the boot.ini file stored in C:\ (not recommended), the easiest way is to goto Start->Settings->Control Panel->System->Advanced->Startup and Recovery and untick the Display list of operating systems for xx seconds.

open boot.ini(system file in root directory) and remove line with windows 98. that's more correct way to fix it:)
