Help with new gaming build please!!

Hi all! I will be ordering the parts for this computer within the next 3 days, so Im going to need some help making sure everything is okay and that Im getting the most for my money.


1. I will be gaming on this machine
2. Budget is around $1500
3. I will be buying in the USA
4. No brand prefrences
5. Im not using any parts from my current machine
6. I have researched this build
7. Yes, I plan on OCing (hence the heatsink)

im going to rant on that board.

Ive been ranting how crappy it is in the high end area of overclocking.

Try to aquire a Gigabyte P35-DS3P OR Asus P5K-E. Those should fall within that budget. There much better boards then Abit. And i own all 3 boards, well ABIT IP35-E which is the same thing minus 2nd pci-eincase your wondering.


Trust me you'll be much happier with those boards over tht abit.


OMG 15 dollars for a fan??? your kidding me.

goto jab-tech.com look up Yate Loon DSH if your going to do heavy overclocking, and DSM or DSL for quiet and medium overclocking.

Save yourself some money and get one of those. I use them on all my h2o setup, so they will work for you. The sink is 2 dollars more expensive at jab-tech, so if your source has yate loons, look for those, if not then i recomend you get both at jab-tech to save on shipping.

PS. Yate Loons = OEM NEXUS So just cuz there cheap, dont think your getting cheap fans. Also, the fans might be closed corner. If you do get a closed corner one, your going to need to drill the side so you can open it. Its not very hard to do if you have a drill. Just go slowly, its very difficult to mess up.

There are DSL's which are open corner if you dont want to do that. Look for those, but the DSL's are super quiet, but dont push a lot of air. So heavy overclocking will be a nono on these.

The samsung monitor @ 330 dollars would push you very close to a 24 inch. I would try to round up some cash and grab a 24inch. You get a larger resolution.

I'd second an ASUS mobo. Also easier to OC. The only thing you have that I have experience with is the PSU. That Corsair is very good if a little pricey. But at 50A on 3 rails, you can power quite a system. Also, the Samsung can be hit or miss with the different panels . If you can find the LG 22" for a decent price, it's a very good 16x10 monitor.

Win98 and ME will not work with this CPU/mobo. They're too advanced

You can always run them in MS Virtual PC or VMware though...

Any reason to having 2 DVD burners? You can still burn with 1 DVD burner, just takes 2x longer.
The 8800 GTS seems a bit overpriced. Get the eVGA 8800 GT ( http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...&prodlist=pricegrabber ) for $250 instead.
I prefer the Logitech MX518 mouse over the Microsoft ones, so you may want to check those out too.

But considering tax (if applicable) and shipping, the GT can easily come out to about $275-$280 range. You can get a GTS for about $325 right now and considering you can get higher clocks and better cooling than the GT, I wouldn't say that it ISN'T worth it; just depends on what you need the card for and what you intend to do with it. And that's all on the GTS' stock cooler so you don't even have to deal with hassle of replacing it and spending more money to get a new heatsink/fan.

When I do burn its usually quite a bit, so I would like to get it done ASAP

I decided to get the BFG 8800 GTS 512 OC instead...money really isnt a large factor since I still am within my budget.

No, I meant the 6700. I got it at that price with Windows Vista Home Premium and the DG33TL mobo for $249 through Intel Retail Edge.

I also decided to go with this DFI mobo since it seems like the abit ip35 pro isnt so great lol

Will that DFI Mobo work with Penryn?
