i got a HIVAL 48x16x48 burner a couple days ago w/ nero software, but it wont burn anything faster than 16x, i got 40x Philips CDR's but It doesnt let me burn more than 16x, if u can give any help, that would be great. thanks

new nero will detect the speed of your system + media before proceed. If it detect your media can't handle at high speed, then it will burn at the lower speed for you.

I agree with TimeKeeper but you might need to goto nero's website and get your softare updated and run the drivespeed and cdspeed tests as well. Just because the media's marked as 40..as always YMMV..there is also a setting in nero itself for burn speed..but usually..nero knows what you have for media even if its marked as something else..

i already updated the nero software, it still wont let me burn faster than 16x, ill have to pickup another cdr, whats a good brand that usually always works as it says?

maybe it thinks they are cdrw?

that's highly doubted since there isn't a 16x CDRW Yet...

or may-b Plex just came out with one... 😛

in his original post he says its a 48x16x48
I'm just guessing i'll admit

there are utilities that identify the cdr/cdrw , i'm really not that familiar with them but i thought nero had some sort of diagnostic utility

not much help I know 😱

You might have a lite-on OEM burner that has smart burn turned on, which reads the CD and picks the appropriate speed, turn it off in Nero by going to Choose recorder, I think, I forget but look for it.

Ok here is the problem. Sometimes NERO keeps it memory about media even if it is wrong. Go to the drive properties in Nero and uncheck the Smartburn option. Exit nero and come back in. It should let you burn at any speed your writer supports. I recommend then re-enabling smartburn.

That should fix it for you......

Open Nero. Then there is a menu at the top that says recorder. Click that menu then choose, "Choose Recorder". Pick your cd-rw and there should be a button called options, click it and smartburn should be one of them you can uncheck.

You don't have anything like that? Maybe it is called something other than smartburn but you should have something else where smartburn in listed on that picture.
