Help with nagging 2000 Problem please!

This might be long so please forgive me, but I am about to give up. I have tried to get 2000 running for several months on the following machine:
Asus Cusl2-c Bios 1009 Pentium 1Ghz
Sound Blaster Live Value
2 WD 30Gb 7200 Hard drives C:= Windows 98 D:= Win 2k (NTFS)
Asus v7100 deluxe vid card
512 Mb Ram
Pioneer Slot load DVD
TDK 12x10x32 CDRW
Trendnet 10/100 Nic
I can always get 2000 to install and last for about a week. However It always seems to get corrupt. I use to think that it was a hardware problem because I use to have a promise ultra ata card installed. I finally removed it this week and then reloaded 2000. Now I try to boot to 2k and get the following error: \winnt\system32\drivers\pci.sys is either missing or corrupt. It then suggests that I boot from the cd and try the recovery options. I do this and of course it cannot even detect my 2k installation.
It should be noted that I always install the lastest inf updates as well as service pack 2. I have also formatted these drives several times including using a utility to write 0's to the drive. I am able keep 2k working on all of my other machines but this one seems to hate me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Might be bad components. Have you tried stripping it down and running it with just CPU, RAM, Proc, and Video card?

Yes I have tried running it with just basic componetnts and I still have the same problem. I am not an expert, but I have been able to configure 5 machines with 2000 pro without any difficulty. I wonder if this board is just a little hoakie?
