Help With my RT314

Hello All,
I have a Netgear RT 314 networking my cable modem for two desktops. I may be getting a laptop and want to network it to my existing network wirelessly but keeping those two other desktops connected with ethernet cables. So basically, is there anyway to add a wireless component to my existing wired network??

Thanks and Happy Holidays

Wireless LAN consists on two main components.

1. Access Point (A/P).

Access Point is the Main Transmitter/Receiver that mediate between your LAN, or main computer, to the rest of the Network.

2. Wireless Client Card.

Wireless network Card is the LAN card that is installed on all the Computers that want to join the Network.

================================================

Most of A/P can control more then 200 computers equipped with Wireless Cards.

The basis of operation and setting on the computers is like regular LAN. The specific setting of the Wireless hardware is included with the Hardware manuals.

You can buy A/P and plug it to your Netgear Router's switch.

However, A/P usually cost the same as Cable/DSL Wireless Router (on sale or with rebate).

So, you are better off Buying a new Wireless Cable/DSL Routr (which is a combo unit like your RT314 with an A/P).

Sell you current Router, or give it as a gift.

Wireless Routers Compared

Two wireless cards can talk each other. They may cost same as a wireless AP but less than combo of AP and a wireless card.
How fast right now is your cable? wireless is not so fast as wired router. It's more like a DSL, working but not very fast, 200~400kb is common.
