help with my router

I've recently aquired a Cisco 2621 router, and want to set it up as a 'router on a stick' to route inter-vlan traffic. What version do i need in order to make this happen?

under my interface/subinterface prompt i can't see the 'encapsulation' option anywhere when i use

#?
...

when i type
#encapsulation
i get "incomplete command"

and when using

#encapsulation ?
i get 'unrecognized command"

how do i set up the router on a stick with this hardware? do i need to do a software update? i think i'm running IOS 11.2 on this one.

You need a much newer version if you have IOS 11.2. Should be using IOS 12.3 as that was the last version on that platform.

Also make sure you're in subinterface mode. It looks like "Router(config-subif)#", and there is no "encapsulation" command in the global configuration mode which is looks like "Router#".

Yuck, 12.0(7)T is crap. PM me with your RAM and flash sizes and I'll try to help you out.
