Help with my Mits 65809

We got this TV @ Fry's for $1799 as a floor model. It didn't come with a remote so we just purchased one on eBay (which hasn't arrived yet). Anyway, I've been having a few problems. During certain frames and such, there is a LOT of redness. Like someone put the TINT all the way to red, even though I checked and the TINT is right in the middle.

Another problem is that on local channels, the TV looks fine, but through Dish Network, there are these diagonal lines (slope of -1) that can be easily seen through the broadcast. The lines aren't like black or anything, but it's like a fuzzy picture of the show on these lines. I'm thinking because it's stretched and not regular. And what's better for regular broadcast, 3:4 or 16:9?

Check out Home Theater Spot for info on tweaking the Mits. Yours is a 2001 model, eh? (I think). They were victims of the Mitsubishi red push affect. The Spot has sections showing how to correct that or people up there who can correct it for you (for a price, though).

I heard of this "Red Push" before I bought it, but the movie they were playing @ Fry's (Star Wars Ep 2 if I recall correctly) and the regular broadcast seemed crisp and stuff.

Could any of the settings be off because the Fry's delivery guys freakin dragged the TV against the cement?

Well, pick up a copy of Avia on DVD and start with that. And, do a lot of reading at the spot and be ready once the remote comes in. Be sure to focus on the Tweaks section for Mits.

Oh yeah. I'd been using Video Essentials and was beginning to loath it. Chuck Williams came to calibrate my set last Jan. (from a tour I read about at The Spot) and he brought his Avia disc. I was quite impressed with the options and screens it offered and how easy it was to get to them compared to Video Essentials.

Hmm....haven't been to the site in quite a while. Looks like a $3/month fee or a $25/yr fee. $3 is definitely worth it. You can get in there and save the tweaks for future reference.

If you own a mits join hometheaterspot and pay. There is no other place on the internet that gives you access to that much inside info, tweaks, and help.

I own a mits 65819 (very similar to your set). Do yourself a favor and spend a lot of time on 'da spot, you'll find anything you need to know. The x809 series have a good deal of red-push, but keep in mind that broadcasters sometimes bump color saturation as well, they can be all over the place.

My ISF calibration cost about $800 but that included a portion of Chuck's travel fees. You may find someone in your area that would be less expensive. Chuck did pretty much everything except adjusting geometry (which I know how to do myself now).

I want to know more about this "red push." I just joined Spottie, I'm going to wait until I get my remote and rent AVIA before getting a Bronze account. $25 is minimal, but I want to make sure I will be able to do all this tweaking.

The red push will involve more than just using the remote. Cheaper way is by installation of a device or the ISF tech can correct it programmatically (if memory serves correctly)

Yeah, but I want to know how hard it will be to install this device. We've only had the TV for two weeks now and my mom wants to get rid of it (she thinks it's too big), she wanted a Panasonic 47" one for almost the same price as we got the 65" Mits.. If this device is going to take a lot of time, then maybe we'll return the TV and get a smaller one (we are sitting 12' away though..). ! Stupid mom.

By a lot, I mean like 6+ STRAIGHT hours.
