he was using standard thermal compound and his cpu would overheat when trying to do gaming. now after bios it goes to a black screen and wont recognize his 2100 even with 133 FSB

What BIOS does it have? Is there an option to "Load Optimized Defaults" or anything to that nature? If so, try that. Otherwise try loading just the plain BIOS defaults.

Inspect his application...He made have either gotten some AS off the core an onto the bridges and could be shorting them out or inadvertently closing them, or he applied to much as and when he placed hsf on it the pressure shot excess AS out the sides of the core and onto the bridges....

Either way take it off and clean up the AS and try it again....

Also short cmos and/or pull the battery to reset the bios....

Thats the thing though, artic silver is non conductive. Reset the cmos and see what happens.
