Help with my computer, it keeps locking up on me.

Everytime I try to run my webcam, my computer freezes within ten minutes of opening it. I cannot run a server in Counterstrike without the same thing happening to me, and it also happens when I am playing on someone else's server. Sometimes it just freezes, sometimes it restarts by itself. And sometimes when it freezes, it lets out this high pitched squeal. I have tried reinstalling everything, using Windows 98, ME and Win2k, with all the same end result.

My specs are:

900 mhz TBird
256 mgs of ram
30 gig HD
Nvidia GEForce 256
onboard sound, since my Soundblaster Live Value just makes the problem worse when I install it.

I really do not know what else to do, I have only had it a month and it is really frustrating me. I am sure it is just one little thing that I have missed. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. :)

Did the webcam did this?

Did you try newer drivers for the operating systems? I know my webcam (crappy POS) never had problems under win98 but everytime I run it's capturing program it reboots in win2k.

It seems to be anything either sound or video related that does it to me. Because it will even lock up with Winamp or WinDVD playing. I have the latest drivers for my camera and everything else, even my motherboard. But it still keeps doing it.

I wonder if it could be a conflict between your sound card IRQ? Have you tried switching slots?

I don't have a sound card installed, I use onboard sound. And my motherboard is a AOpen AK-73.

Do you have two cards sharing the same IRQ? There may be a conflict, but windows just doesn't know it.

Try changing the slot in which your Ethernet Controller is in. That seems to be the only thing that looks like it could be a problem with IRQ's
