Help with my 12x/40x Toshiba DVD Drive. It's Slooowwww

I just bought a 12x Toshiba DVD drive and it seems very slow. I benchmarked it in sandra 2001 and it reports it as bairly faster than a 1x DVD? Buffered reads were 1500 kB/s and Sequential Reads were 1867 kB/s.

I am running win2000 on a Duron 800 w/ 256megs PC133 and a 15gig IBM 5400rpm drive. Do I need to do something to configure it? Should I go return it and get a different drive? What do people recommend. Thanks.

you need to enable DMA on the ide channel.
Go to the device manager and click on advanced properties of ide controller.
