hello everyone-

i am currently in the planning stages of building a computer for my brother. i have decided to use an athlon XP 1800+ processor. i would certinaly appreciate some suggestions on what the best motherboard for this processor would be. i would like it to incorporate onboard audio but onboard lan isn't necessary. also, usb 2.0 isn't necessary. my brother is not very technically proficient and he is taking this computer to college with him so reliability/stability is the most important issue. i know this isn't the most exciting topic and i'm sure questions like this get posted like this a lot so for that i apologize. thanks for anyone willing to offer advice!

most any board based on the via kt333 chipset would work great

personally i like the epox 8k3a+ for its strong overclocking features, but that may not be important to you guys :)

check out this article on the mail page... if you follow the link it will show you several good boards, just pick the one/ones that have the features you want/need

I like the Shuttle AK35GT2R. It has highpoint raid, and a 5.1ch C-Media sound card.

Very stable and cost less than $99

Doesn't sound like there's any OC'ing planned. You should check out the A7S333. Save yourself some money and get PC2100 and run it at 1:1 FSB:memory ratio. Nice stable board, good price.
