Help with "missing" package.

I sold an item to an idividual on another forum and have some issues.

Item was shipped via fedex. At the fedex place the girls said there is no option for a signature at that address. She looked puzzled and kinda shrugged and said she's never seen that before but there was nothing she nor I could do.
The buyer emails me on the delivery date (thursday) stating he checked the tracking and it showed the item was delivered but he didn't see it at his house. I immediately responded telling him to contact fedex. Keep in mind it was ~4:00 pm his time so theres still time to maybe get the driver and have him verify which house he delivered it to.
I then immediastely contacted fed ex myself explaining the situation. They said they would put a "tracer" out on the package and contact the driver. I emailed the seller again informing him of my call and urged him to call.

Never heard anything so I emailed him friday asking for updates.

Today I get an email stating he's been busy and is on the phone with fedex now.

Now, I'm not sure of my further responsibilty. Don't get me wrong, I would love to help out but my hands are tied. I sent a package and it was delivered.

Haven't heard back from the buyer but was curious what the forum thinks.

if fedex says it's delivered and you shipped it to the right address (call to verify, maybe they got it wrong), then it's out of your hands.

Update - Fedex spoke with the driver that verified he dropped it off.

Refund him when FedEx agrees to award you insurance $$.

I don't have a problem getting things started as far as a claim goes. But to me that's all I can do. I have done everything in my power. I mean, if the package was lost by fedex then they should be 100% responsible. But if they actually dropped it off then who' knows what happened to it??????????

What I would tell you if it happened here:
It's your responsibility to get the package to him. Pay him back now and collect the insurance when it comes in.

Once FedEx has issued a tracking number, and it has been provided, it is then in FedEx's hands. If this guy had some kind of thing on file to never require a signature for his address, then it is his own fault and his loss cuz somebody stole the dumbasses stuff.......... otherwise FedEx becomes liable for not allowing a signature requirement.......... the OP did everything correctly, after all he did indeed ship and this guy did indeed get a tracking number........... the buyer just has to wait until the OP settles things with FedEx; most likely FedEx will end up footing the bill...................

If the recipient had a "signature-release on file" as I believe Fedex calls it, then it is his problem at this point ... however I have to add that if I'd been told by Fedex that I couldn't get a signature from the addressee, I wouldn't have shipped the package with them.
