Hi everyone!

I was looking for some help on building my latest machine, I will be using it primarily for Gaming, but also for some dvd burning and media encoding and have a budget of 1,000-1,300, I will be buying all parts from USA, and am a huge fan of Intel and nVidea. I will keep my current 19in Monitor (Dell) and later upgrade to 22-24in (Acer/samsung looking promising) IF i could get a system with at least a 22 In for my price range maybe slightly higher id be happy as well. I would like to OC a bit, nothing too extreme but a push never hurt :p. I plan on building and ordering in the next week, A few things i have looked at thus far

Case
COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC Has Option with Power Supply at Newegg

PowerSupply
This is where i need the most help, I can go with one with my case from new egg making it cost about $90 more, but if i can find a good MODULAR 650- ^ Power Supply, Id like that more

MotherBoard
Also where i need help, While im not set on DDR3 it would be nice, also looking at possibly having dual Graphics cards later on but not till much later, (This MOBO is without sli/dual cards)
GIGABYTE GA-EP45T-UD3LR LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX

Processor
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor
Is pretty much what im sticking with unless someone can find something that better fits, From what i have heard, good OC ability / all around solid performance

Graphics Card
Been so long since i was nVidea, (current card was ati for cost... poor performance will not reuse) EVGA 512-P3-N879-AR GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card is a card that has caught my attention but i am not set on that either

Ram
mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 4 gigs is pretty much what ill need for ram, if i could get more cost effective, i would, ddr3 isnt needed but a plus

Hard Drive
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive Ill Need at least 500gigs of storage with a desired amount of 1TB (250 games/programs 750 files)
This drive caught my attention as its cheaper than 2 drives with greater space but would like 2 drives for security

Addons

Keyboard
RAZER Lycosa need new keyboard, Must have media buttons (Play pause next last ect) prefer wired interface doesn't matter much

Mouse
Logitech MX518 2-Tone 8 Buttons 1 x Wheel is the mouse Ive used for years, I need to replace it now but i got about 4 years out of my last one and really like the set up

PC Game Controllers
I emulate alot of older NES/SNES/SEGA (Would like to do more PS and ^ too)
so a decent Game controller would be nice but also not needed

CD/DVD Burner
LITE-ON Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 22X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 22X DVD Burner with LightScribe Has everything i want with good price, (Dual layer burnable /light scribe SATA Interface)

Could anyone offer any assistance at all?
Any help is appreciated

Thanks

No reason for DDR3 with a Core2 platform. If you're sticking with Core2, go with DDR2.

Few things:

1. Go for DDR2 ram, DDR3 will not be worth the cost.
2. For gaming, stick with Core2Duo. A faster Core2Duo is a better option for gaming compared to a slower Core2Quad.
3. Look at a GTX260 or ATi 4870 1GB. Since you favor nVidia, than the 260 is the way to go.
4. For power supplies, look at a Corsair. Their modular ones are my preference since I like my cables to be neat. 600W+ is good.

Dude, drop the DDR3 - its a waste of money.

So, revise your motherboard. The Asus P5Q Premium is a great board. The Asus Maximus II Formula is a seriously great board. I own both. If it were between both, i'd push you to spend the extra $ on the Maximus board, you won't be disappointed; running my Q9650 @ 3.6Ghz with 1.20v where as on my old DDR3 board, took ~ 1.31v

Maximus II Formula for 135$ open box here.

1. The PCI-e sound card is so so at best. Doesn't support OpenAL which really counts in games. 2. You can buy the I/O shield and manual on ebay anywhere between 10 -15$ ...if you want the reatail its 249$

I'd recommend a Q9550 also - great overclockers. Gaming @ 4Ghz on air! here again.

The ram is an easy pick after all that.

You can pick up 4G for as low as 45$

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R $104.99 AR
Pretty much the best bang for the buck mobo for overclocking right now.

G.Skill 2x2GB DDR2 800 $44.99
or
G.Skill 2x2GB DDR2 1066 $46.99
Depending on how much you overclock. That 1066 is one of the cheapest 1066 sets out there. There are some that cost slightly more that are better but it will do fine.

CORSAIR 620HX $119.99 AR
Antec Neopower Blue $109.99
SILVERSTONE 700W $99.99 AR
OCZ 700W $84.99 AR
All these are modular as you asked for and should serve you well for a long time. These are just some ideas of what's out there as there are so many to choose from.

sounds like a killer rig... total price seems a little high though. I don't agree with the comment about going dual over quad though. You can pretty much get any newer quad to 3.2 ghz which is plenty of brute speed and as games become quad optimized you'll be all set, where as with the dual you'll be f#cked

Its all from new egg and vista is 100 alone, so i can drop it lower and use windows 7 just dunno how stable it would be with the different range of games i play, some new some old

I was thinking i might swap up to 1066, I went with 800 for price more or less, there are some cheaper still even... Thoughts?

Yes, if you want more headroom to overclock without worrying about the memory ceiling 800 will get you 3.6ghz, then you are pushing the memory and everything else...
