help with laser printer

i have an old HP 6L laser that has worked great since the day i bought it new but the past few months for some reason im not happy how its printing and i dont know what/how it got messed up but i try to draw and type things in photoshop or wordpad and when they print out its kind of a 'blurry dot bleed' on the edges.

but when i print a test page the font and picture it prints out is perfectly crisp just as it should be.

does anyone know what is wrong with the way it prints otherwise?

running vista if it matters.
