I have a compaq 1272. The blowin fan stoped working,so I bought a new one after I installed it, the new one didn't work. so I speced out the fan pins and found out I have no power to the fan. my question is this if I use a different power source for the fan what should I use the red for 5 volts or the yellow for 12 volts? I don't understand why there is 2 power wires for this fan.
Thanks

it's probably the red wire from the fan to the yellow of the power supply. The yellow on the fan is probably the 'sense' wire (to tell the system that the fan is operational, speed, etc).

so 5 volts from the power supply to the red wire on the fan.
