Help with KR7A, can't run anything on it

I got an Abit KR7A non raid for Christmas along with 2 x 256mbs of PC2100 Crucial, Pal8045 w/ Panaflo L1A, and Athlon XP1600+. I completely formatted my HD's, and began to install Win2k. Everytime in the installation when it got to 13%, it would say that it can't load a file. Retry didn't work, and if I skipped it, every file after that would do the same thing. So I tried another cdrom that I know works, same thing. I tried another Win2k cd, same thing. So I take out one stick of ram, and bam, it works. So I get Win2k installed and everything seems to be going swell (with one stick of ram). I configure my internet and go on to get drivers etc. IE crashes randomly. Anywhere from 1 sec to 30 mins of use, IE will crash. After a while I get the newest 4in1's, detonators, and sound card drivers. The whole time while IE still crashing. I get all the Microsoft updates, nothing helped. Finally I get DirectX8.1 and try and run 3dmark2001. It won't run any benchmarks or demos. In Sandra, I can bench everything though. None of my games work (CS, Max Payne, Q3A). I have reformatted my HD, and installed Win2k again, same things. Tried running without 4in1's, same things.

My temps seem to be fine, BIOS reports around 38C idle. I have tried both sticks of ram, with higher voltages, and difference timings to no avail. Any ideas? I posted on the amdmb.com forums, but they are kinda slow, thought I might give here a shot 🙂

Any help would be appreciated.

Look at my My Rig for full specs.

I would start from scratch 1, reseat the processor and ram. make sure that ram is seated properly, it takes alot of force on the KR7A Raid board, install the HTpoint raid drivers, thats the file win2k is seeking, I had problems with mine also when installing win 2k, had to download different HTpoint drivers as the ones on the CD didn't work.
I'm using Pauls modified bios and HTpoint raid drivers found Here

Don't mean to be mean here, but did you READ my post? I do not have the RAID version. I resetted all cards, cpu, and cables. Same problem, nothing has changed.

Anybody have any suggestions? I might send this one back, get another or a different board altogether.

Thanks

I had the exact same problem, as long as i had only 1 memory stick installed, everything was fine, but when i installed the second stick, everything went haywire.Random lockups, blue screen etc.I'm still waiting for a reply from ABIT.

Well, even with ONE stick of RAM I still can't run ANY games or applications. IE crashes and all my games won't run. I have tried just about everything I can think of. I think I'm going to send it back tomorrow unless someone can help me out. 🙁

Try resetting the BIOS to default settings, and make sure your CPU voltage is where it should be at.
