Help With internet explorer

I am currently troubleshooting a friends PC...which is very viral.
many of the problems were IE related, pop ups, system errors etc. So I installed Firefox, and
though add/remove I removed IE7 though I am still getting the popups though IE,

My Question,

How do I completely remove IE and all traces of it.

It's not IE you need to get rid of it is the adware/spyware. Download SuperAntiSpyware (Free edition) and run it.

Unfortunately, IE is tied to Windows. As far as I've heard, there is no way to completely remove IE from a Windows box without causing issues with Windows (up to XP. I've had limited dealings with Vista and only assume it's the same.)
As the above poster mentioned, install SuperAntiSpyware. I'd also add in Spybot search & Destroy and Hijack This!

You can't remove IE from Windows. Install and run your choice of spyware removal software. In IE Explorer 6...

IE Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > General tab (default)

Click:

• Clear History
  
• Delete Cookies
  
• Delete Files
  • Check Delete all offline content.
    
  • Click OK.

Click the Privacy tab.

• Click Advanced.
  • Under First-party Cookies
    • Check O[/i]verride automatic cookie handling.
  • Under Third-party Cookies
    • Check Bl[/i]ock.
      
    • Check Always override allow session cookies.
      
    • Click OK.

Check Block pop-ups.

• Click Settings.
  • Enter:
    • update.microsoft.com (for Windows Update)
      
    • office.microsoft.com (if you have MS Office products)
      
    • forums.anandtech.com (of course 😎)
    You can add any other site you want to access that requires unblocking pop-up as necessary.

Do not remove IE7. That's not going to solve anything, and only makes the system less secure than it was. If you need, like, an actual security strategy, try this one. If you need malware-removal help, try John's malware-removal guide.

If it were me, I'd back up his stuff, nuke the system with a DBAN CD, and then do a clean install of Windows and secure it as shown above. If you decide to do that, make sure to unplug all extra hard drives (internal & external) and flash drives / memory-card readers before you proceed.
