help with Intel HSF push-pins

These things are a HUGE pain.

I can get the first two to go in easily. But after the first two, the rest don't wanna click.

I tried putting HUGE pressure on them, even bending the mobo, and they still wouldn't snap in.

What am I doing wrong???

Went through the same deal with my i7 cpu. Make sure the arrows (on top of push pins) are in the correct position before pushing the pins in. They should go in pretty easily then turn the arrows toward the lock position. Get a new heatsink asap.

Make sure the white part is sufficently through the holes before you apply pressure. I usually attach the cpu while the motherboard is out of the case.

Ok, I installed it, but my temps don't look right

80 71 74 75

This is with q9650, everything stock, case open, Intel HSF

Too hot right?

forgot to say those are load temps with prime95 running

Get a new heatsink asap. Seriously buy one with the screws instead of those crappy push pins. They need to get rid of that crappy design once and for all.

If that's running 4 threads in Prime95 using stock heatsink, doesn't look too bad to me.

well good, because i tried re-seating the HSF several times and it didn't get any cooler

whats the idle temps? A core 2 quad shouldn't get to 80 degrees under load. you're not overclocking right? When you put it on, do the diagonal ones first, then the other two. Don't put too much pressure on them, if they won't go in, then maybe one of the pins are split.

Because the stock intel heatsinks are crap brand new right out of the box.
