I have no hair left from ripping it out!!!!! About 2 years ago, I had ICS working in win98. I'm trying to share my cable connection with 2 computers. One day, it just quit working. I worked on it for days and finally gave up. Since then, I've tried a few times to no avail. Now I bought winproxy at the suggestion of someone on this board and I've spent about 5 hours this afternoon and I can't get it to work either. I don't even know what clues to give you guuys, I've tried everything.

The computers are networked and sharing files fine. Everything can be pinged. Host computer sees internet just fine. Laptop sees internet just fine if I set it up correctly to plug directly into the modem.

But... when I add any kind of NAT, nothing on machine two.

I've tried setting IP address automatically, setting manually, everything I can think of. All iterations leave the 2 machines networked fine but machine 2 not seeing internst.

WHAT THE HECK CAN I BE DOING WRONG???????

I've even uninstalled and reinstalled all protocols. I've also rebound all protocols (I had some unbound for internet safety before). Shut off all other firewalls... etc.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, a few more clues. I got it to work by manually inserting proxy information into a browser on the laptop. BUT... according to Winproxy, everything on the client machine should be automatic. This doesn't work for me if I have to do everything manually (I know I have to setup socks, but thought I better get the rest working first).

If the windows installation is more than 6 months old you should consider to reformat and reinstall. It should get rid of all your problems. If you want anything more realiable get Win 2000 Pro.

Make sure the gateway and dns servers in the client point to the IP address in the server.
