While I find it odd that college requires you to have health insurance, your attitude lends merit to their decision.
What would you do if you were involved in a catastrophic event? Say you were in an automobile accident. Do you have the tens of thousands of dollars that would be required to pay medical bills? Without insurance you may get treatment in the emergency room, but you sure wouldn't get physical therapy or followup treatment.
You attitude toward health insurance makes me think you have a very distorted view of what insurance is and what it's for and the value of being properly insured.
