I've got this headset that the dog chewed the cable apart on. It's a Turtle Beach EarForce X11 wired headset (USB powered, analog headphone jack input).

It has 4 wires in the cable:
Insulated red wire wrapped in a copper wire
Insulated green wire wrapped in a copper wire
Insulated blue/gold wire wrapped in a copper/red wire
Insulated blue wire wrapped in a copper/blue wire

All four outer wires are touching inside the outer rubber sheathing. The insulated inner wires all have some sort of soft, white thread running through them.

From what I've found on the net, the insulated blue wire wrapped in the copper/blue wire is the USB power, the blue/gold wrapped in copper/red should be the mic wire, and the red and green wires wrapped in solid copper are the right/left of the earphones.

However when I connect all the like-colored wires up from each end of the severed cable, I get nothing. The light on the control box doesn't light up, and I get no sound. I can't even get a small light bulb to light up when I connect the exposed ends of the USB hot/ground wires to it.

Help me out here? What am I doing wrong?

got any pictures of the cable/wires?

just because you connected the open break, doesnt mean your dog didnt chew in other places. you would have to test the cable at various lengths to figure out where/if there is another disconnect.

Unless someone here has a tip/trick it might be easier to just rewire the entire cable. or get a wireless headset since your dog is unlikely to learn not to chew wires anytime soon.

The cable is undamaged except for the part where she chewed it in half.

I removed a little piece of the outer wire about an inch away from the USB connector and tried checking it with a test light, but it wouldn't light. I don't have a multimeter anymore (damn thing died on me) so I can't test it that way.

Some pics of the wires are located here: http://www.raduque.com/temp/

The problem with re-wiring the whole cable, is that it has an in-line amp/volume control box that's powered by USB.

Edit: The headset was given to me by my dad, their new puppy chewed it. He's already gotten a replacement headset and gave me this one because he thought I might be able to fix it.

the double wrapped wires may have the ground wire around the live wire, did you connect them separately?
