Had a power surge today and one of my drives konked out.
It has winxp on it and some files.
I put it in another xp machine as 2nd device on primary ide channel, and the drive does not show up on desktop, but windows sees it in computer management, and states "drive not initialized".

Could it be boot sector corrupted?

Before I initialize it and start all over (not backed up unfortunately), is there any repair I can try from dos, or maxtor utilities, or something else?

Thanks a lot.
Greg

fixed it. xp disc> repair console> "fixmbr".
Didn't take the first time, restarted and tried again.
Don't know if I can boot from this now, but at least I can recover my files....
