Help with firewall

I have somehow got a firewall on me, even thought i never installed one or anything, i swear msn is doing it but they won't admit it, so how do i get it off? IT says it is on socks 4 port number 1080

You have a socks4 firewall running on port 1080? Sounds like Wingate or a similar proxy (this could be bad). Go into task manager, see what programs are running. If you see one you dont recognize (look for the words proxy or wingate especially) and kill them. Do a search and look for the executable. Maybe check add/remove programs. Also, get a virus scanner with an up to date definition and run a full scan.

i ran a virus scan with up to date and it found nothing, and nothing is running except explorer, systray and aim

netstat -an

Look for 1080. That will see if there is actually something listening on that port. A firewall isnt a bad thing to have on your machine, but a proxy would be.

I ran that and it said-

C:\WINDOWS\Desktop>netstat -an

Err yea. MSN messenger includes the capability to use a socks4 server, did you mistakenly turn it on?
