I am using text in excel but for some reason the size of the cells is not fit to the amount of text in them.
(Long text would for example need a cell with 3 lines of text but the cell only displays 2 lines).

How do I configure it to fit the cell size/height to the amount of text in the individual cells?

I think you want: Format >> Cells >> Alignment >> Wrap Text to automatically form vertical lines of text in one cell.

If the row height isn't adjusting as the number of vertical lines of text increases, then try: Format >> Row >> Autofit.

(I'm still using Office 97; the paths to these commands in newer versions may be different.)

The size of cells isn't automatically fit to the amount of text in them. Just rezize the cells by clicking on the little cell headers on the left and top of the worksheet and dragging them to a different size. You can also click on cells and select fit to cell. Do my first suggestion since it's something you NEED to know how to do.

I don't know how the height works but for width you can just click on format column autofit. I don't see how you could make a paragraph in one of the text boxes.

I am writing a database for my current employer, and the original data entry was in excel. I put well over 1000 characters into a cell.

I also hit the row limit in excel. yay! 65k rows.

Or you can highlight multiple cells, right click and choose "merge cells" to make one bigger cell out of several.
